TheColonyisacontrolledexperimenttoseeexactlywhatitwouldtaketosurviveandrebuildunderthesecircumstances.For10weeks,agroupof10volunteers,whosebackgroundsandexpertiserepresentacross-sectionofmodernsociety,areisolatedinanurbanenvironmentoutsideLosAngelesandtaskedwithcreatingalivablesociety.
Withnoelectricityfromthegrid,norunningwaterandnomunicationwiththeoutsideworld,allthevolunteershavetoworkwitharetheirskillsandwhatevertoolsandsuppliestheycanscavengefromtheirsurroundings.
Expertsfromthefieldsofhomelandsecurity,engineeringandpsychologyhavehelpeddesigntheworldofTheColonytoreflectelementsfrombothreal-lifedisastersandmodelsofwhatthefuturecouldlooklikeafteraglobalviraloutbreak.
Overthecourseofthe10-weekexperiment,theColonistsmustworktogethertobuildthenecessitiesofsurvival,suchasawater-filtrationsystem,abatterybankthatpoweredtheirelectricity,asolarcooker,ashowersystemandagreenhouse–andevensomeniceties(acoffeemakebbb!).
